GAFTAG GIVES MINI BUS & DOG KENNEL TO GAF IN NORTHERN COMMAND

The German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) has presented a new Toyota Hiace mini bus and constructed a dog kennel facility for the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) on at the Air Force Base (AFB), Tamale.

The dog kennel, presented to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei on Tuesday 29 April 2025, was established to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Military Working Dog Programme, and contribute to Ghana’s broader security architecture.

Receiving the building and the vehicle on behalf of GAF, the GOC thanked GAFTAG Team – led by Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Andreas Heselschwerdt – for their tireless efforts in making the donation a reality, and for the commitment to strengthen the bilateral ties between GAF and the German Armed Forces.

He stated that, GAFTAG over the years has been exceptional for the provision of technical assistance and the construction of critical infrastructure across GAF garrisons.

He added that, the completion and handing over of the facility and the vehicle signify the strategic and operational partnership that would promote capacity building, sustainability and professionalism within the rank and file.

General Tei further spoke of the importance of military working dogs in contemporary security operations, particularly in detection and tracking adding that the facility will serve as a vital asset for training, to enhance the overall Force Protection and Base Defence capability.

The Head of Mission, GAFTAG – Lt Col A Heselschwerdt expressed his pride in the long-standing security cooperation partnership GAFTAG and GAF, and noted that the construction of the dog facility will significantly contribute to military operations, fostering greater security and stability, and thus urged commanders to recognize the invaluable contribution of the dogs in operations.

The Commander, Air Force Training Command – Air Commodore Matthias Awuah was present at the event.
