The German Armed Forces Technical Advisory Group (GAFTAG) Head of Mission (HOM) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Andreas Heselschwerdt, has pledged to expand his team’s support and partnership to the Ghana Navy, just like the existing collaboration it has with the Ghana Army.
Lt Col Andreas made this known when he paid a maiden visit to the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Issah Adam Yakubu, on Tuesday 9 July 2024, at the Naval Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra.

The expanded support is expected to include the provision of search dogs, training programs, equipment assistance, and capacity building initiatives tailored to the Navy’s specific needs.
This move is seen as a significant boost to the Ghana Navy’s efforts towards maintaining security at Sea.
R/Adm Yakubu congratulated him on his appointment as the new HOM for GAFTAG in Ghana, whilst acknowledging the high quality of projects delivered by the Group.
He welcomed the pledge, stating that, it will greatly enhance the Ghana Navy’s capabilities, adding, “We look forward to a fruitful Collaboration”.

Lt Col Andreas expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and pledged to expand GAFTAG’s support and cooperation to the Ghana Navy, and also embark on more projects within the ocean space.
GAFTAG has been supporting the 48 Engineer Regiment, the Signal Training School, the Defence Intelligence and other training institutions within the GAF for the past years, and this expansion of support to the Navy marks a significant milestone in the bilateral defence cooperation between Germany and Ghana.
The CNS presented a plaque and also decorated the HOM with a custom-made Ghana Navy Kente stole to strengthen the collaboration.
