GEN AMOAH-AYISI: SOLDIERS ON IS DUTIES MUST SHOW DISCIPLINE …

by Kofi Ampeah Woode

The Commander, OPERATION KOUDANLGOU and outgoing General Officer Commanding (GOC) Southern Command (S/COMD) – Major General (Maj Gen) Michael Amoah-Ayisi has cautioned troops of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) deployed on Internal Security Operations (IS) to be professional and disciplined at all times.

He gave the caution when he paid a day’s visit to the 66 Artillery Regiment at the Volta Barracks, Ho and troops deployed at Nkonya and Alavanyo, in the Volta Region of Ghana, after a soldier was stabbed by an unknown man.

Maj Gen Amoah-Ayisi stated that any soldier found to be indiscipline and unprofessional in the discharge of their duties, will be severely dealt with in line with the Code of Service discipline.

Additionally, he urged Commanders at all levels at such IS operations, to ensure that men put in their charge are well managed, and any act of indiscipline is immediately reported to higher command.

He maintained that covering up of such acts goes a long way to affect the safety and security of troops deployed to such operations, as it has the tendency to create enmity between the community they are deployed to protect, and the troops thereby jeopardize the entire operations.

He further stated that troops cannot successfully discharge their mandate without the support of the members of the communities they work in.

He therefore, informed them that the competence of successive appointments of Commanders at all levels, will be judged based on how they perform during such operations.

A soldier deployed at Nkonya Tye, was stabbed by an unknown man, and this has resulted in a Board of Inquiry (BOI) being set up to establish the facts behind the stabbing, to forestall its reoccurrence.

Maj Gen Amoah Ayisi indicated that whoever is found to have misconducted himself in events leading to the unfortunate incident, will be punished to serve as a deterent to others, and thus urged troops to be good ambassadors of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Maj Gen Amoah Ayisi was met on his arrival at the Volta Barracks by the Commander Rear 66 Artillery Regiment – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) JD Ibrahim, who briefed him on the operations of the Regiment, after which he conducted the GOC on a tour of the Alavanyo -Nkonya operational area.
