GEN GYANE CHARGES ESSMGB GHANCOY 3 TO KEEP FOCUS ON MANDATE

by Kofi Ampeah Woode

The Commandant, Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) – Major General (Maj Gen) Richard Addo Gyane, has charged troops of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB) Ghanaian Company 3 (GHANCOY 3), to live up to expectations by sticking and working together, to fulfil their mandate.

The Commandant visited ESSMGB GHANCOY 3 on Monday 30 September 2024, on behalf of the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), Ghana Army – Maj Gen Bismarck Kwasi Onwona, and held an All Ranks durbar with the troops in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau.

Maj Gen Gyane urged them to be extra vigilant and proactive, with the consciousness that the security situation in Guinea-Bissau remains quite unpredictable, and that any failure on their part to stick to the core mandate of ESSMGB, would cast the entire GHANCOY in a bad light.

He further charged them to abide by all ESSMGB operational, administrative, security instructions and directives, to carry out the mandate to the letter, and to also take the in-mission training seriously, living up to expectations, and to portray the Ghanaian astuteness and professionalism in peacekeeping.

Referring to the Officer Commanding, ESSMGB – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Gabriel Mawuli Agboado, as a professional, disciplined, fair, and firm leader, he counselled the troops to have the same faith the COAS has in him, for which reason they have been entrusted to his command, be loyal to each other, and ultimately to all authority set over them.

Specifically, he asked all Officers, Warrant Officers, and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers, down to the Patrol Leader or Guard Commander, to live exemplary lives that can inspire confidence in those they lead, and to exercise effective leadership at all levels, to be worthy ambassadors of Ghana by abiding by all Command Directives and Instructions.

On behalf of the Chief of the Defence Staff, Service Chiefs, and the entire Ghana Armed Forces family, he wished them a fulfilling tour of duty in Guinea-Bissau.
