GEN ONWONA VISITS HQ S/COMD AND 48 ENGR REGT

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has paid a working visit to the Headquarters, Southern Command (S/COMD), as part of the his familiarization tour of Units and Formations, and to obtain first-hand information of deployments, tasks and activities of the Army, generally.

The visit on Friday 8 March 2024, at Kpeshie Ridge, Teshie, was also to ascertain developments and challenges in the Units at the tactical level, to inform his operational decisions.

Maj Gen BK Onwona was met on arrival at the Formation’s Headquarters by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Samuel Yeboah Asare, honoured with a Ceremonial Guard, thoroughly briefed on the Administrative, Operational and Logistics state of the Formation, by the Command Operations Officer.

Prior to holding an interactive durbar with troops, where the COAS outlined his vision – To maintain a cohesive, motivated and well-rounded Army capable of undertaking its mission of national defence as part of the GAF – he was taken on a brief tour of S/COMD Headquarters Camp.

General Onwona commended and congratulated troops under the Command for the good job done at maintaining peace and security in their area of operational responsibility, and asked for same support and loyalty accorded his predecessor, to be extended to him, to help achieve his vision for the Ghana Army.

On same day, Maj Gen BK Onwona visited Ghana Army’s 48 Engineer Regiment Headquarters, at Wajir Barracks, Teshie, where he was received at the home of ‘The Sappers’ by the Commanding Officer – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Alex Twumasi, and given an extensive brief of the tasks and obligations of the Combat Engineer Regiment, as well as the challenges they encounter, in the conduct of their tasks.

Major General BK Onwona was conducted round some key installations in the regiment, after which he held an All Ranks Durbar with the unit, where he charged troops to desist from acts that bring the hard-earned image of the Army into disrepute, including all forms of financial scams and unauthorized operations.

The COAS was accompanied on the visit by a high-powered delegation of Staff Officers from the Army Headquarters, including the Deputy Chief Staff Officer (DCSO), Administration – Brig Gen Emmanuel Acheampong Baidoo; Army Secretary – Colonel (Col) William Ackah; Acting DCSO, Plans & Research – Col FK Gyamera; Chief G3 – Col IB Mohammed and Chief, Projects and Services, Col AB Tekyi.
