GEN OPPONG-PEPRAH ASSURES OF GHANA’S BORDER SAFETY

The Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS), Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah, assures that Ghana’s borders remain safe, despite numerous security challenges in neighbouring countries.

General Oppong-Peprah gave the assurance during a health walk and awards ceremony for the 2024 CDS Essay Prize Competition, which was organized for personnel of GAF’s General Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, on Tuesday 31 December 2024.

The Ghanaian distinguished General, highlighted the crucial role GAF continues to play in the security architecture of Ghana, in protecting the country’s territorial integrity, stating that despite terrorism threats from the Sahel region, the nation continues to enjoy peace and security.

He thus singled out GAF personnel deployed at Ghana’s frontiers, particularly at the various borders, and applauded them for performing their duties professionally, ensuring that the borders are safe.

The CDS also pointed to the significant infrastructural improvements and achievements of GAF in 2024, and cited the appointment of Major General Anita Asmah, who has been appointed as the first African female Force Commander, United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), as a testament to GAF’s operational excellence.

The event, which provided opportunity for personnel to reflect on the year 2024, featured a health walk, socialization, and recognition of the winners of the CDS Essay Prize competition 2024.

Awards and prizes were presented to outstanding personnel who excelled in the competition.
