GHANA AIR FORCE COMMENCES CONSTR OF 24-UNIT STUDIO ACC’N FOR AIRMEN

The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Frederick Asare Kwasi Bekoe has cut sod for the construction of a 3-storey state-of-the-art building comprising of 24-unit studio accommodations, towards providing comfortable and modern living spaces for Airmen of the Ghana Air Force.

The sod-cutting for the project on Friday 6 October 2023 at the Air Force Barracks, Burma Camp, Accra, forms part of the vision of AVM Bekoe, to improve the welfare and living conditions of personnel of the Ghana Air Force.

Delivering his speech as the Guest of Honour, AVM FAK Bekoe emphasized the importance of providing suitable accommodation for personnel, as this would greatly boost their morale and productivity, and that efforts were being made to retool the Air Force, in order to improve upon the operational readiness of the Service, taking into cognizance the rising security threats in the West African sub-region.

On capacity building, the CAS was delighted that all 12 trainee pilots, sent for training in the United States of America, had completed the private pilot phase of their training, and mentioned the training of Engineers, Administrative Officers, and Air Traffic Controllers, which was underway, as well as the introduction of more technical courses in Egypt and Nigeria, for the training of Airmen.

AVM Bekoe further enumerated a number of ongoing infrastructural projects in Accra, Takoradi and Tamale Bases, and commended the collaborative efforts between the Ghana Air Force, GAF’s Directorate of Engineer Services, Dakal Construction Works Ltd and other stakeholders involved in the realization of the project, whose sod-cutting project was held.

He expressed optimism that completed accommodation projects by the Air Force, would serve as a flagship example of modern living quarters for military personnel, and charged all personnel to continue to work hard in the discharge of their duties.

In a welcome address, the Base Commander, Air Force Base Accra – Air Commodore (A/Cdre) Eric Agyen-Frempong expressed gratitude to the CAS for making the welfare needs of personnel a priority, and entreated all the stakeholders involved in the project to play their roles effectively, to ensure the timely completion of the project.

The studio accommodation units would feature state-of-the-art facilities, including spacious living areas, modern kitchens, and top-quality amenities, all designed to ensure the comfort and well-being of the occupants, of the project which is expected to be completed in eight (8) months, and would be constructed by Dakal Construction Works Limited, with supervision by the Directorate of Engineer Services.

In attendance were GAF’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Administration – AVM Michael Appiah-Agyekum; Director General, Logistics – Cdre Agyenim-Boateng; Chief Staff Officer, Air Force Headquarters – A/Cdre Eric Yirenkyi; Chief Director, Ministry of Roads and Highways – Alhaji Abass; Senior Military Officers, retired Officers and Airmen, Officers, Airmen, and representatives from the Air Wives Organisation (AWO).
