GHANA ARMY ARTILLERY TRAINING SCHOOL ENDS INFANTRY FIRE SUPPORT COURSE 1-2024

Ghana Army’s Artillery Training School (ATRS) has successfully ended its 8-week Infantry Fire Support Course 1-2024, designed to train Infantry personnel from the Southern Command (S/COMD), to individually perform tasks as Gunners, and equip them with core skills required, to operate within a 107mm Multiple Rocket Launcher (MRL) Detachment.

The course, which ended on Friday 3 May 2024 at the ATRS at Akoefe, Volta Region, had 30 participants with subjects such as; Gunnery of 107 MRL, Observer Skills, Arty Minor Tactics, Map Reading, Voice Procedure, First Aid among others, and was also designed to familiarize Soldiers with Tactics, Techniques and Procedures on the employment of the 107mm MRL in war, Internal Security and Counter-Insurgency operations.

In his remarks at the closing ceremony, the Guest of Honour, and Deputy Commander, Army Training Command – Colonel (Col) Godwin Yaw De-Souza, indicated that the course participants had been transformed into highly skilled Gunners, and equipped with the core skills necessary to effectively operate within a rocket system detachment.

Admonishing the course participants to continue to build upon the foundations laid during the course, he urged them to embrace continuous learning, and always strive to improve their skills, place importance on teamwork, and that they, as the future of the armed forces, are being counted upon by the Officers and Soldiers of S/COMD, to perform their duties as skilled and capable Gunners of the highest calibre.

Col De-Souza extended his special commendations to Sergeant (Sgt) Teye Tetteh Simon, Corporal (Cpl) Agyapong Richard and Lance Corporal (L/Cpl) Nyonyo Harrison Kofi, for emerging first, second, and third, respectively, during the course, indicating that they had proven their mettle for the Command to be proud of their accomplishments.

The Guest of Honour concluded by extending his appreciation to the Instructors, Trainers, and Support Staff who guided and mentored the participants throughout the course, pointing out that their expertise, patience, and tireless dedication had been instrumental in shaping the participants into the elite Gunners that they have become.

The closing ceremony was graced by the Commander Rear, 66 Artillery Regiment – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Jalali Din Ibrahim; the Commanding Officer, ATRS – Lt Col Patrick Atuiri, and Officers, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff across the 7 Garrison.
