GHANA ARMY HOLDS END-OF-2024 FUN GAMES

The Ghana Army, as part of its initiatives to climax activities for 2024, has held an end-of-year fun games, to enable personnel take a break from office duties to relax, get entertained and to create more avenues for bonding.

The fun games held on Thursday 9 January 2025 at the Ghana Armed Forces Sports Complex, Burma Camp, Accra, which were preceded by a 2.4 kilometre walk by personnel, and some aerobic exercises, involved indoor and outdoor games such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, ludo, oware, draught, and tug of war.

The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona expressed excitement about the full participation of personnel in the sporting activities, which he stated is an important part of human development.

He also stated that the event was a good means to reflect on 2024, and to focus on the years ahead, urging personnel not to forget the values that bind them together in their collective commitment to serving the nation.

The COAS further applauded personnel for their dedication, hardwork and commitment, despite being faced with some challenges, and indicated that their shared determination to succeed brought a lot of achievements in 2024.

Highlighting their invaluable contribution that made the difference, he urged all to renew their commitment to creating a better future for the Army, Ghana Armed Forces and Ghana as a whole.

He also acknowledged the level of professionalism displayed by personnel in supporting the civil police to ensure the country maintained its peaceful democratic credentials, by having a free and fair election. Notwithstanding, he admonished them to go the extra mile to ensure lasting peace in the entire territory, as the country still faces some security challenges.

The COAS also expressed his gratitude to all spouses and families for their consistent support and prayers.

At the end of the fun games, trophies were presented to winners of various competitions, where the Officers’ team won the soccer competition, Warrant Officers won the Volleyball competition, while the Corporals, Lance Corporals, Private Soldiers and National Service Personnel team won both Basketball and tug-of-peace events.

As part of the event, the Ghana Army Sports teams were presented with medals and trophies won from various tournaments during the year 2024.
