GHANA ARMY HQ ASESSES OPERATIONAL READINESS OF HQ S/COMD

A team of Staff Officers from Ghana Army, Headquarters (A/HQ), led by Chief G3, A/HQ – Colonel (Col) Emmanuel Larbie Sarpong Gyadu, has conducted an Operational Readiness Assessment Visit (ORAV) at HQ, Southern Command (S/COMD).

The exercise performed on Tuesday 25 February 2025, forms part of measures by the Ghana Army to ascertain operational readiness and efficiency at the Command and Unit level, to ensure battle preparedness.

It was also to inspect Unit Arms and Ammunition, assess troops Barracks Security Drills, Office Management, Personnel Administration and Inspection of Unit Records and Archives, to help identify flaws and setbacks, to guide higher headquarters on future policies and plans.

Additionally, the exercise was conducted to assess the serviceability of Unit Equipment and Stores, troops understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Intelligence gathering, guidelines and instructions on Alarm Schemes and Internal Security (IS) operations.

General Officer Commanding (GOC), S/COMD – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Samuel Yeboah Asare and Staff Officers of the Command, including the Command Operations officer (COO) – Col Benjamin Boamah; Command Logistics Officer (CLO) Col Franklin Gyamerah-Amoako; and the Deputy Command Operations Officer – Lieutenant Colonel Prince Owusu, hosted the team.

They gave an in-depth brief of the organization and role, activities and responsibilities of the Command, as well as achievements and some challenges of the Command.

Other members of the team, which included Col Samuel Alemawor – 17 Signal Brigade; Col Kofi Obiri-Yeboah – Chief, G5 Plans; Col Eric Tenadu – Chief, G2 Intelligence; Major HIC Gamor – SO G4 Logistics; and Major Isaac Annor – Base Workshop, also inspected the arms and ammunition stores, vehicles and troops response to alarm schemes.

Operational readiness assessment visits are conducted periodically in all military Commands and Units to ascertain the overall battle preparedness and effectiveness of personnel and logistics deployed in a Unit.
