Ghana Army has intensified border patrols at the Bongo Soe general area, Upper East Region, with 11 Mechanized Battalion (11 MECH BN) led by its Commander Rear (Comd/R) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Kakra Sasu-Antwi, as part of efforts to deter suspected terrorist infiltration from neighbouring Burkina Faso.

The patrols which intensified from Friday 29 August 2025, are aimed at reinforcing security of border communities, engage residents, and verify intelligence on the reported presence of armed men in the general area, after locals reported of sighting three unidentified individuals moving through the area with concealed faces.

The Chief of Bongo – Soboko Naaba Sapion, confirmed earlier encounters, highlighting traces such as cooking sites and footpaths believed to have been used by the suspects along the cross-border river.

The heightened presence of troops has not only reinforced vigilance, but also served as a strong deterrent to potential threats, with the community welcoming the operation, expressing relief at the visible show of force, and requesting for more of such patrols.
