GHANA ARMY’S 10 MECH BN HOLDS INTER-COY STEEPLECHASE COMPETITION

Ghana Army’s 10 Mechanized Battalion held an Inter-Company Steeplechase Competition to test the physical fitness, endurance, team spirit, and cohesion of troops, and to revive and reaffirm the Unit’s commitment to discharging its mandate in the Upper West Region, regardless of the challenges faced.

The rigorous event held on Friday 2 August 2024, covered a total distance of 10.5 kilometers, with participants carrying a 15kilograms sandbags for approximately 1 kilometer to the Aggrey Barracks, Wa, Upper West Region, followed by a series of challenging obstacles, before crossing the finish line.

The Commanding Officer, 10 Mech Bn – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Godfred Asampong, during his opening and closing remarks, emphasized the importance of such competitions, indicating that the event was not just about individual achievements, but to also focus on fostering unity, cooperation and mutual support within the Unit.

He added that the event was also a test of determination and teamwork, highlighting the resilience and strength of Officers and Soldiers.

Throughout the contest, participants demonstrated exceptional stamina and teamwork, urging each other on to push harder, embodying the core values of the Unit, as the enthusiastic support from each Company (Coy), cheered colleagues on, adding to the vibrant and competitive spirit of the day.

The Inter-Company Steeplechase Competition was a resounding success, reinforcing the 10 Mech Bn’s readiness and dedication to its mission of safeguarding the security and territorial integrity of the Upper West Region.

C Coy emerged as the OVERALL BEST Coy, with A and HQ Coys placing second and third, respectively.
