The 77th anniversary of the 28 February, 1948, Christianborg Crossroad shooting incident has been commemorated with a brief flagraising and wreath laying ceremony at the Nationalism Park in Osu, Accra on Friday, 28 February 2025.
The Vice president of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, the Interior Minister, Mr Muntaka Muhammed, the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Thomas Oppong-Peprah joined to witness the ceremony.

The occassion marked a pivotal moment in Ghana’s struggle for independence from colonial rule.
The ceremony, featured flag hoisting, the sounding of the Last Post, reveille, Veterans’ Roll Call and wreath laying ceremony.
The incident involved three former soldiers – Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey-Lamptey, who were killed while marching peacefully to present a petition to the Governor of the Gold Coast.

The ex-servicemen were seeking pensions and compensation promised to them for their service in World War II.
Instead, they were met with violence from the colonial police, resulting in their deaths and the injury of 60 others.
