Ghana Navy marked Maritime Combat Power Week 2024, with a presentation on the vision of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) Issah Adam Yakubu, to the Senior Command and Staff College Course 46 of the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC).

The CNS’ vision presentation was done by the Chief Staff Officer (CSO), Naval Headquarters – Commodore (Cdre) Bright Emmanuel Kojo Atiayao, who was accompanied by Principal Staff Officers from the Naval Headquarters, on Wednesday 23 October 2024 at the Hamidu Hall, Otu Barracks, Teshie, Accra.

Cdre BE Atiayao highlighted Ghana Navy’s Strategic Vision for 2030, and explained that the Navy’s Strategic vision was necessary, since major navies worldwide are increasingly engaged in high-level combat and power projection at sea.

He continued to say that naval forces globally, including Ghana Navy, have begun shifting from traditional military roles, to broader security and policy driven functions, with the view to exerting some security authority at sea.

He added that these contemporary engagements have helped in protecting maritime areas from non-state threats like sea, mobility-related crimes and environmental violations.

During an interaction session with the Officer/Students, the Cdre Atiayao remarked that 90% of global trade is transported by sea, and that it is economically, the most efficient means of goods transport worldwide, affirming the importance to control Ghana’s territorial waters, with the view to enhancing security for free movement of goods and logistics.

Several issues related to the security and safety of the Blue Economy, viz-a-viz the roles and responsibility of the Ghana Navy in achieving its mandate, were also discussed.
