GHANA SECURITY SERVICES AT BAWKU SHOW UNITY THROUGH SPORTS

The Deputy Director-General of Prisons/Administration – Mrs Patience Baffoe-Bonnie, who was Guest of Honour (GOH) at the games held on 28th May 2024, in an opening interaction, implied that the event was geared towards fostering esprit de corps amongst all the security agencies in Bawku, and also creating a good working relationship among the Security Services, in efforts aimed at bringing lasting peace to the people of Bawku.

The competing teams included the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Ghana Police Service, Ghana Prison Service and the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) football teams.

The first phase of the competition saw GAF and Ghana Police Service qualify for the final of the competition, after beating the Prison Service and the GIS, respectively, and in the end, GAF emerged champions in the grand finale, by beating the Police Service by a goal to nil.

In a closing remark, Col YO Appah expressed joy at how troops socialized during the competition, and iterated the need to work together at all time, elaborating that, it showed professionalism.

He reiterated that the socialization and improving the working relationship among the security agencies was the main effort of the competition, and that such events needed to be sustained.

He also eulogised the effort of the Deputy Director-General of Prisons – Mrs P Baffoe-Bonnie for driving all the way from Accra to Bawku, to witness the games, and presented her with a customised T-shirt with the inscription “Peace for Bawku”.

In her remarks, the GOH expressed satisfaction at the level of socialisation, indicating that it gave her hope for peace in Bawku, as she entreated security personnel to continuously demonstrate peaceful coexistence to the community, as a model for the community to emulate.

The event was crowned with a presentation of a football, a volleyball, table tennis balls and table tennis sets (2 pairs of bats, balls and a table tennis net) to the Bawku Secondary School by Mrs Baffoe-Bonnie, on behalf of the Heads of the Security Agencies in Bawku.
