A Ghanaian traditional ruler has added his voice to worldwide calls for the reform of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), to vitally make the global organization more inclusive, equitable, and democratic.
Osabarima Nana Ansah-Sasraku III – Chief of Mamfe and Kyidomhene of Akuapem Traditional Area, made the call as the Guest of Honour at the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) 13th Joint Graduation Ceremony of the Masters of Arts (MA) in Conflict, Peace and Security, on Friday 29 November 2024, under the theme: Two Decades of Excellence: Promoting Peace and Security in a Changing World Order.

Osabarima Ansah-Sasraku III stated that the application of standards in the rule-based international order, has been characterized by double standards that do not only raise questions about the legitimacy of the current system, but also expose critical political gaps and inequities.
In response, he asserted, new parallel structures are made, as one finds within the formation of the BRICS (Brazil Russia India China South Africa), as a contender of the Western mainstream, as the world is said to have transitioned from a unipolar to a multipolar order, raising fundamental questions for reflection.
Nana continued that the concept of world order, is often understood in terms of the distribution of power, and the framework for managing war and peace in the international system, however, the concept also reflects a preferred arrangement of power, and the corresponding institutions of global governance that align norms and principles that ought to frame them.
The manner in which the normative frameworks are conceived, adopted, infused, and enforced, influences approaches to such values as peace, security, economic growth, equity, justice, human rights, and environmental emancipation at a global level, he opined.

A total of 104 MA students from Ghana, Nigeria and South Africa graduated on the day in MA, Conflict, Peace and Security (MCPS), MA Conflict, Peace and Security – Weekend (WMCPS), MA Gender, Peace and Security – Weekend (WMGPS), and Executive MA Conflict, Peace and Security (EMCPS).
Dignitaries present included the Commandant, KAIPTC – Major General (Maj Gen) Richard Addo Gyane; Commandant, Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) – Maj Gen Matthew Kweku Essien; Rector, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration – Professor Samuel Kwaku Bonsu; Members of the Diplomatic Corps in Ghana, Senior Officers of GAF; and many others.
KAIPTC is one of three of the Economic Community of West African States’ (ECOWAS) prestigious Training Centres of Excellence, and provides policy support to African states, the United Nations, African Union, and ECOWAS.
