The Senior Medical Officer of the Ghana Battalion 11 (GH11) in United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) – Lieutenant Commander (Lt Cdr) Tay and his medical team from the Ghana Battalion Level 1 Hospital in Bentiu, have supported the UNMISS Medical Services in educating women within Unity State on breast cancer.
This help was provided during the launch of the Women’s Health Campaign at Sector Unity Headquarters, Bentiu- South Sudan, under the theme “Let’s Build Wellness Rather Than Treat Diseases”.

The Women’s Health Campaign, an initiative of UNMISS according to Madam Lydia – a representive of the Acting Head of Field Office (HoFO) – “reflects the collective commitment to the wellbeing and empowerment of women within UNMISS”.
She added that “Let’s Build Wellness Rather Than Treat Diseases” resonates with the dedication of the UN on women in the ranks, not only to have access to health care, but also to be equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to prioritize their wellbeing proactively.
The Campaign is focusing on addressing common issues that affect women ranging from reproductive and maternal care to mental health, nutrition and beyond.

Lt Cdr Tay, during the launch of the campaign educated all and sundry present, on how to self-examine, detect the symptoms of breast cancer and what they can do to prevent the spread of the cancer cells.
He was assisted by other health professionals from GHANBATT 11 Level 1 Hospital, who examined some participants at the launch of the campaign.

About 120 participants, including women from the Mongolian Battalion, the Ghana Formed Police Unit (GHANFPU), Ghana Battalion, local UN staff and some Staff Officers at the Headquarters were present.
