GHANENGCOY 10 MARKS GHANA’S 66TH INDECE

The Ghana Engineer Company 10 (GHANENGCOY 10) serving with the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), held a flag-raising ceremony in Timbuktu, Mali to mark Ghana’s 66th Independence Anniversary.

The parade on Monday 6 March 2023, was one of many that were held by other Ghanaian troops on UN Peacekeeping missions around the globe.

The Officer Commanding (OC), GHANENGCOY 10 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Edward Kofi Poku, stated the importance and symbolism of Ghana’s 66 Independence Day, and said the commemoration marks the recognition of the sacrifices made by Ghana’s forebears. He thus, called on all Ghanaians to renew their loyalty to the country, and commit to ensuring lasting peace, security and development.

The Sector West Chief of Staff – Colonel (Col) Eric Koffi Hobbah, who was the Guest-of-Honour, expressed honour as an Ivorian, to be part of the Independence Day celebration, indicating the cordial and strong relationship between Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire. He recalled the history of Ghana, was the first sub-Saharan African country to gain independence under her 1st President – Dr Kwame Nkrumah in 1957.

The Chief of Staff expressed appreciation to GHANENGCOY 10 for the good work done since its insertion in February 2022, and the demonstration of professionalism and competence, and the technical proficiency offered to other Units within Sector West in MINUSMA.

The parade, with a contingent of 21 All-Ranks, commanded by Captain Thelma Bawa Bezua, at the Sappers Camp in Timbuktu, was attended by representatives from Burkina Faso, Egypt, Liberia and Nigeria.
