The Ghana Boundary Commission has completed a 3-day boundary operational survey inspection along the Ghana/Cote d’Ivoire international boundary line at Dollar Power in the Bole District of the Savannah Region.

The exercise was conducted from 11 to 13 April 2023 and involved a technical team from the Ghana Boundary Commission as well as representatives from the Ghana Geological Survey Authority, Minerals Commission, and the Forestry Commission.
The exercise was conducted in two phases. The first phase was a courtesy call on the Chief of Dollar Power area, followed by the physical assessment of the international land boundary pillars where the technical team observed that some of the pillars had been tampered with or removed.
The assessment also involved the use of mapping drones to verify coordinates of the pillars along the boundary line.

The second phase was the sensitisation of the community about the purpose of the exercise and the outcomes expected.
The National Coordinator of the Ghana Boundary Commission, Major General Emmanuel Kotia, informed the people of Dollar Power that an assessment made in 2021 revealed that there were pillars that had been displaced.
He mentioned that after an engagement with the chiefs and local authorities, it was ascertained that the displacement was as a result of illegal mining.
He appealed to the community to desist from tampering with the pillars and to continue to be watchdogs of the pillars to help safeguard the boundary line.

Major General Kotia informed the people of Dollar Power that very soon the Commission would jointly conduct a reaffirmation exercise with the Boundary Commission of neighbouring Cote d’Ivoire to replace the displaced pillars.
He added that as a result of recommendations made by the Ghana Boundary Commission, the Government of Ghana was commencing the construction of a feeder road from Ntereso to the community to improve the livelihood of the people as well as provide access to the boundary line.
Present at the exercise were the District Chief Executive of Bole District, Madam Veronica Alele Heming, Deputy CEO of Minerals Commission, Mr Samuel Yeyu Tika, and the Chief of Dollar Power area, Sindiwura Abbot Mahama.
