GhBC URGES VIGILANCE IN BORDER COMMUNITIES

by Kofi Ampeah Woode

The Ghana Boundary Commission (GhBC), in partnership with the Jomoro Municipal Assembly in the Western Region of Ghana, has organized a sensitization programme to increase awareness of locals about Ghana’s shared boundaries with la Cote d’Ivoire.

The programme, held on 30 March 2023 for residents in the New Town border community in the Municipality, also aimed at deconstructing negative social norms and responses by actors and residents of border communities along the Western Frontiers.

Leading the sensitization, the National Coordinator of GhBC – Major General Emmanuel Wekem Kotia emphasized the need for border communities to be vigilant and proactive at all times; report any tempering or removal of Boundary Pillars along the boundaries; and enhance cross-border security and community cooperation along the Western Frontiers.

In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executive and Officials of the Jomoro Municipal Assembly, the Traditional Council and Community Leaders of New Town.
