The Ghana Military Academy (GMA) 2003 graduating intakes, comprising Regular Career Course 43 (RCC 43) and Short Service Commission/Special Duty Course 42 (SSC/SD 42), have constructed an Unarmed Combat Pit at the academy for Cadet training to celebrate the intake’s 20th Anniversary of graduating from the Academy and commission into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

The 26-square-meter combat pit, equipped with 200-seater spectator sheds, has been designed to serve a versatile role in training and recreational activities. Not only can it be used for unarmed combat training, but it can also serve as a venue for other events, including beach volleyball.

Addressing the audience during a ceremony to commission the project at the Academy on Wednesday, 30 October 2024, the Guest of Honour – Rear Admiral (R/Adm) MM Tahiru (Rtd), underscored the importance of physical fitness in the lives of Officers and Soldiers, emphasizing the relevance that dexterity at unarmed combat brings to them in battle.

He applauded the 2003 graduating intakes for the gesture and encouraged other intakes to contribute towards capacity building of their alma mater.

At the ceremony was R/Adm Eric Adu – Commandant, Training and Doctrine Command; Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Charles Agyemang-Prempeh – Acting Commandant, GMA;  Brig Gen Kenneth Kwaku Kwaah Kumi – Director General, Logistics, General Headquarters (GHQ); Brig Gen Emmanuel Commey – Directorate General, Inspector General’s Department at the GHQ;

Others were Brig Gen Daniel Kwadjo Frimpong (Rtd) – former Commander, GMA; Brig Gen Albert Assiamah – Director General, Human Resource, GHQ; Brig Gen L Atror – Deputy Commandant, GMA; Senior Officers of GAF, Officers of RCC 43 and SSC/SD 42, a cross-section of the Officer Cadets, Chief Warrant Officer Addo Daniel – Forces Sergeant Major; and some Defence Civilian Staff.
