The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei commissioned a newly constructed Blood Bank, and refurbished Emergency Paediatric and Female Wards at the 6 Medical Reception Station (6MRS) in Kamina Barracks, Tamale.

The GOC in his keynote address on Thursday 29 May 2025, described the refurbished Paediatric Ward and the new Blood Bank – which were built in partnership with the Bank of Ghana, and other partners – as a beacon of hope, a symbol of compassion, and a legacy of partnership.

He said the facilities extend beyond infrastructure, and represent a collective commitment to building a healthier and more resilient society.

General Tei further stated that meaningful progress is built on collective action, hence the need for collaborations between Headquarters, N/COMD, the Bank of Ghana and other partners.

Commending the staff of 6MRS for their professionalism and dedication, the GOC charged them to steward the facilities with excellence, and called on all stakeholders to ensure the continued functionality of the facility through routine maintenance, adequate resourcing and continuous support.

The Regional Director of the Bank of Ghana, Tamale – Mr Abdul-Aziz Mohammed, expressed pride in his outfit’s association with the projects, noting that the establishment of the blood bank would not only serve personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), but would also benefit the wider Tamale community.

Mr Mohammed further described the relationship between Bank of Ghana and Ghana’s military as mutually beneficial, and assured of the Bank’s continued support to the 6MRS and GAF.
