The General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Grig Gen) Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo, together with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ghana Police Service – Mr Christian Tetteh Yohunu, led a high-powered security delegation to communities affected by the recent clashes in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba (STK) and Bole Districts.
The delegation, on Tuesday 26 August 2025, included the Savannah Regional Minister – Mr Salisu Be-Awuribe, and the Director General, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) – Mr Kipo Alhassan, who undertook the visit to assess area security situation and engage traditional authorities towards restoring calm.

As part of the visit, the delegation called on the Overlord of Gonjaland – Yagbonwura Bi-Kunuto Jewu Soale; Chief of Sawla – Sawlawura Abdulai Nugbaso; and Chief of Kalba – Kalbawura Amaliya Saaka, at their respective palaces, and also visited Gbeneyiri village and the Saru crossing point.
They expressed condolences to the bereaved families of the deadly land dispute at Gbiniyiri in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District, Savannah Region, which has resulted in numerous deaths, injuries, and widespread displacement of residents, particularly women and children, since Sunday, August 24, 2025, and reaffirmed government’s commitment to finding a peaceful resolution to the disturbances.

The Chiefs, while recounting their version of events, appealed for the release of persons in police custody and the return of seized arms, and also requested the immediate establishment of a Police Station at Kalba, to enhance long-term security.
In response, the GOC and IGP assured the Chiefs and community members that their concerns would be given due consideration, and urged all parties, particularly the youth, to exercise restraint while investigations continue.

The Kalbawura, who tragically lost a son during the clashes, was assured of government’s support and encouraged to remain calm, as security forces intensify efforts to maintain peace and order.
The GOC was accompanied by the Chief Operations Officer, N/COMD – Colonel John Kwarteng, other Staff Officers, and the Command Sergeant Major.
