The Headquarters (HQ), Northern Command (N/COMD) has commenced a seven-week Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) Orientation Cadre aimed at equipping personnel with the skills necessary to effectively operate the TYGRA APCs deployed in the Command’s area of responsibility.

The Cadre to enhance Operational Efficiency and Combat Readiness, commenced on Tuesday 28 January 2025, and will feature both theoretical and practical sessions, including simulated exercises to prepare participants for real-world scenarios.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Guest of Honour, and General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei, highlighted the importance of the training in addressing the unique security challenges in the Northern Sector.

“Internal security within the Administrative Regions continue to engage the attention of the Military High Command. The evolving security threats in the Northern Sector require robust measures by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) to ensure peace and security,” Brig Gen FN Tei stated.

He explained that the resurgence of ethnic conflicts, coupled with the assessment of imminent terrorist threats to Ghana, has led the Military High Command to prioritize the safety of troops.

In alignment with this objective, logistics which includes TYGRA APCs have been provided to support force protection efforts, as part of GAF initiatives to enhance the operations of the Joint Task Force in Bawku – in the northeast – and Northern Command as a whole, the GOC stated.

He further urged participants to take the training seriously, and adopt a defensive driving approach to prevent accidents, and ensure the safety of troops on board, as well as other road users.

Our military should be procuring and using armed drones, even ones with night vision by now. Not to compare but ‘poorer’ Burkina has them, and they’re helping in warfare
