Ghana and Togo have held their first Joint Reaffirmation of Land Boundary meeting in Lomé, Togo to discuss the continuation of the land border reaffirmation exercise between the two countries.
The meeting, held from 7 to 9 October 2024, was formally opened by the Togolese Minister for Territorial Administration, Decentralisation and Customary Chieftaincy – Colonel (Col) Hodabalo Awaté.
In his address, he stated that the meeting served not only as a forum to discuss the issue of the reaffirmation of the international boundary line between Ghana and Togo, but also to consolidate both countries’ commitment to peace, security and development.
He further highlighted the excellent bilateral and fraternal relations that have existed between the two countries for decades and the need to preserve this relationship.
The head of Ghana’s delegation, and Commissioner General of the Ghana Boundary Commission – Major General (Maj Gen) Emmanuel Wekem Kotia, thanked the Togolese authorities for the warm welcome extended to him and the members of the delegation.
He also added that the expectations for the meeting were very high, leading to the definition of a roadmap and a common action plan for the completion of the reaffirmation exercise, which started last year.
He also highlighted the fact that both states had completed more than 350 km of work, and that it was imperative for the two countries to find common ground for the resumption of work, by the technical teams.
Present at the meeting included the Ambassador of Ghana to Togo – His Excellency Kofi Mensah Demitia, dignitaries from various Ministries in Togo.
