KAIPTC GOVERNING BOARD HOLDS 43RD MEETING

The Governing Board of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) held its 43rd meeting to deliberate on the progress of the action plans of the Centre in the year under review and strategize for the future.

The meeting, which is held every trimester, and held on 12-14 July 2023, affords the Board the opportunity to assess the performance of the Centre in keeping with its core mandate and strategic plans, review audited accounts, and discuss critical issues to improve the performance of the Centre.

The KAIPTC Governing Board plays a critical role in ensuring effective and transparent corporate governance of the Centre.

Vice Admiral (V/Adm) Seth Amoama, Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) chaired the meeting on behalf of Mr Dominic Nitiwul – Ghana’s Minister for Defence.

Major General (Maj Gen) Richard Addo Gyane, Commandant, KAIPTC, in his welcome address, noted that the KAIPTC’s current five-year Strategic Plan will end in December 2023, and informed the Board that the Centre had initiated processes to develop a new strategic plan.

He expressed confidence that the draft strategic plan would be ready before the next Governing Board Meeting for approval.

He said management had put in place measures to offset some performance gaps that were identified in the review of the current strategic plan and position the Centre to be able to complete the current plan on a higher note.

Dr Ben Jabik – Head of Monitoring and Evaluation, KAIPTC, delivered a presentation on the 2023 Mid-Year Monitoring Report, which provided an overview of the progress tracked against the work plan for the year.

The Governing Board includes the following Standing Members: Minister for Defence, Ghana (Chairperson); Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs & Regional Integration, Ghana (Deputy Chairperson); CDS, Ghana; Inspector-General of Police, Ghana; Commandant, KAIPTC; President, Economic Community of West African States Commission, and President, African Union Commission.

Other Members of the Board are United Nations Resident Coordinator, Ghana; Director, Legon Centre for International Affairs and Diplomacy (LECIAD), University of Ghana; Representative of Centre for Democratic Development-Ghana, and Chief Director, Ministry of Defence, Ghana (Member/Secretary).

The Board also comprises of Ambassadors from Development Partners, such as Austria, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Nigeria, Norway, Switzerland and United Kingdom.
