LT COL ADDI HANDS OVER TO LT COL LAMPTEY AT MILITARY POLICE

The Ghana Military Police (GMP) obtained its fair share of the wind of change of Commanding Officers (CO), and has seen the 2 years 11 months stewardship of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) David Mensah Addi hand over Command Baton to Lt Col Percy Lamptey – a former Second in Command (2IC) at the Unit.

On Tuesday 1 February 2023, a Handing/Taking Over Parade was held at the GMP Headquarters, Medo Lines, Burma Camp, Accra, and was supervised by the Commander, Support Services Brigade Group (Sp Svc Bde Gp) – Brigadier General John Agyakwa, who was the Guest of Honour for the occasion.

Lt Col Addi, who assumed command of the Military Police in March 2020, had the following developments during his tenure:

His administration was thrusted with the duty to enforce control measures and protocols restricting the movement of people within barracks, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, towards preventing the spread of the deadly virus.

The Unit boasts of continuous flow of potable water, after sinking and mechanizing a borehole, to solve the challenge of lack of potable water. The Unit got an enhanced and conducive environment for troops, with the renovation of 1) the office block, 2) the reroofing and 3) the expansion of the guardroom.

Through the intervention of the Military High Command, a 15-unit Young Soldiers’ accommodation block was constructed, an earnest commitment to see to the completion of the Unit’s accommodation project at Duala, Burma Camp was demonstrated, whiles contributing greatly towards national assignments.

Lt Col Addi, who moves to the Army Combat Training School as Directing Staff, is credited with striving firm for the Military High Command to augment the manpower state of the GMP, resulting in the Unit receiving the highest number of Young Soldiers. He has been instrumental in the capacity building, tremendous skills improvement and professional outlook of personnel through several training ascendancies.

Present at the ceremony included Colonel Bawah Zibrim Ayorrongo – Provost Marshal, Senior Officers, Officers, Regimental Sergeant Majors, Soldiers, Defence Civilian Staff, families and friends.
