LT COL ES APPIAH HANDS OVER COMMAND OF 66 ARTY REGT TO LT COL JD IBRAHIM

The 66 Artillery Regiment held a handing/taking over ceremony to mark the change of Command which comprised of the handing over of the Unit Colours, the lowering and hoisting of the old and new Unit Flags, the Change of Baton, signing of Handing/Taking Over Notes, and the Pulling-Out Ceremony, between the outgone Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Edward Sarpong Appiah and the new CO – Lt Col Jalali Din Ibrahim.

The Guest of Honour for the ceremony on Friday 19 July 2024 at the Volta Barracks, Ho, was the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command (S/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Samuel Yeboah Asare, commended the Lt Col ES Appiah CO for his exceptional leadership and dedicated service.

He indicated that the outgone CO has achieved remarkable feats under his command, demonstrating unwavering commitment, discipline and professionalism and wished him success in his future endeavors.

Brig Gen Asare equally congratulated Lt Col JD Ibrahim on his new appointment, and expressed confidence in him that under his leadership, the Regiment would continue to scale new heights and uphold the high standards set by his predecessor.

He urged all troops to extend their full support to the new CO, since the strength of the Armed Force lies in unity and loyalty of its members to Command, and admonished them to remain professional in the discharge of their duties, especially during the upcoming general elections.

He continued to say that all troops should ensure that the actions they take are within the framework of the law, and to support the Ghana Police Service and Ghana’s Electoral Commission, in the democratic process of elections.

In a farewell address, Lt Col ES Appiah expressed gratitude to the Military High Command for the confidence reposed in him, to all personnel of the Regiment serving and retired and their families as well as the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), Volta Chapter, for their support throughout his tenure in office.

Lt Col Appiah indicated that over the past 3 years under his command, the Regiment had played its role to ensure peace and security in the Volta and Oti Regions, due to the support of the Military High Command, and REGSEC, the Regiment adopted the appropriate strategies to contain and deny freedom of action of any perpetrator of criminal activities in the Region.

He continued by assuring the people of Volta and Oti Regions that the 66 Artillery Regiment will continue to defend and protect the Regions from any individual or groups that would attempt to destabilize the 2 Regions. He concluded by congratulating the Lt Col JD Ibrahim, and assured him of his support at all times.

The ceremony was graced by Senior Officers, serving and retired, members of REGSEC, members of the Ghana Artillery Officers Association, Old Gunners and their Spouses, Heads of corporate institutions in the region, personnel of the Regiment and the Artillery Training School, Defence Civilian Staff, family and friends.
