Ghana Army’s premier Special Forces’ regiment – 64 Infantry Regiment (64 Inf Regt) held a Handing/Taking Over ceremony for the Commanding Officer (CO) position of the regiment to change hands from Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Theophilus Fosu-Appiah to Lt Col Jamal-Ddin Bamie.
The change-of-command event took place on Tuesday 6 May 2025, at the regiment’s headquarters, where the two Senior Officers signed the Transfer of Authority documents at the CO’s office, under the supervision of the then Commander, Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Isaac Nicholas Paintsil.

Lt Col T Fosu-Appiah, who heads to Army Combat Training School (ACTS), took over Command of the 64 Inf Regt on 18 August 2024, serving for about 8 months.
During his tenure, he commenced the construction of a 6-unit female ablution block for the Regiment’s Young Soldiers who share with 153 Young Soldiers. The ablution facility is almost complete with tiling and washroom fixtures are to be fixed, as provision has been made.

The outgone CO also supervised the tarmacking of the Unit’s Square, and the entire Unit’s driveways; and repaired all patrol vehicles which were not in good state.
On training, 64 Inf Regt took part in the 2024 version of Ghana Armed Forces’ Exercise Land Combat and Firepower Demonstration; and conducted an Internal Security operation with Headquarters, Southern Command, during which some weapons and ammunitions were retrieved in the Oti Region of Ghana.

The Unit also participated in the Operators’ Development Course for Special Force Operators at Daboya, alongside 69 Airborne Force, Tamale; as Soldiers’ performances on courses improved significantly, after the outgone CO instituted a policy where Soldiers attended cadres before they participated in any course.
The new CO, 64 Inf Regt – Lt Col J Bamie, is a thorough bred 64 product, and was previously the Camp Commandant, General Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra.
