Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Edmund Nana Nyarko Osae has handed over command of the 2 Infantry Battalion (2Bn) of the Ghana Army to Lt Col Phillip Tetteh Nartey, after leading the Fighting Second fraternity from 27 September 2024.
The handing/taking over ceremony was held on Thursday 15 May 2025 at the OB Akwa Complex and the forecourt of the Battalion Headquarters, Myohaung Barracks, Apremdo, Takoradi, and was witnessed by the Commander, 2 Garrison, and the Air Force Base, Takoradi (AFB TAK) – Air Commodore (A/Cdre) Eric Yirenkyi, Senior Officers, as well as members of the Western Regional Security Council.

In his remarks, A/Cdre Eric Yirenkyi noted that leaders were appointed by the Supreme Being, and therefore, it was imperative for appointees to serve, rather than lord it over their subordinates.
He commended Lt Col Osae for the excellent works done in the Unit, and for his collaborations with sister security services, to maintain peace and order in the Western Region, and the Unit’s areas of operation.

A/Cdre Yirenkyi congratulated Lt Col Nartey on his appointment, added that knowing the new Commander’s capabilities, he will diligently lead personnel of the Unit to achieve their mission and objectives.
Many gifts were presented to Lieutenant Colonel Osae by the Unit, Officers, Defence Civilian Staff, various associations, traditional leaders, cooperate organisations and loved ones.

On the eve of the ceremony, Lt Col ENN Osae commissioned the CO’s Garden of Virtues, located just behind the CO’s office, and also used the occasion to promote the Unit’s mascot – Sergeant Charles II, to Staff Sergeant Charles II.
Present at the occasion included the Flag Officer Commanding, Naval Logistics Command – Cdre Eric Osei; Commander, Tactical Air Command, Bui (TACB) – A/Cdre Kwabena Kissiedu Manukure Atiemo; Metropolitan Chief Executive, Effia-Kwesimintsim – Mr Majeed Dokurugu;

Others were the Commander, Ghana Revenue Authority, Customs Division – Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Walter Blankson; Members of the Western Regional Security Council, Senior Officers, Officers, Defence Civilian Staff, Nananom and well-wishers.
