LT COL PT NARTEY INDUCTED INTO OFFICE AS CO 2BN

Ghana Army’s 2 Infantry Battalion (2Bn) has inducted its Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Philip Tetteh Nartey into office, with a religious service held at the Calvary Methodist Presbyterian Church, Myohaung Barracks, Apremdo, Takoradi.

The induction service under the theme “Esprit de Corps is a Force Multiplier”, was held on Sunday 10 August 2025, and brought together Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) personnel from 2 Garrison, sister security services, corporate organizations, and traditional rulers from Apremdo and its environs.

The Director General, Religious Affairs (DG RA) of GAF – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Benjamin Godson Kumi-Woode administered the oath of office to the CO.

The Special Guest, and Ghana’s Western Regional Minister – Mr Joseph Nelson, in an address said that Lt Col PT Nartey has had strong ties with the Region dating back to his Young Officer days, and as such his experience, and deep understanding of operations in the domain, would inure to the region’s benefit.

Mr Nelson emphasised that the CO’s role did not require just professional competence, but also moral and spiritual integrity, which was vital for the leadership of the Unit.

He further acknowledged the Unit’s role in the security of the Region, and was of the view that the collaborative efforts of the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the security services would help protect the region from evolving security threats.

Ghana’s Regional Minister for Western North, and the Guest of Honour – Mr Wilbert Petty Brentum, asserted that the theme, was not just a military principle, but also a force that binds people together, adding that when soldiers unite with mutual trust, and commit to a common purpose, their collective spirit becomes greater than their individual capabilities.

In his remarks, Lt Col Nartey pledged to commit himself to uniting his troops, and urged them to also adopt a mindset that puts the Unit, GAF, as well as the country first, and their personal interests last.

Charging his troops to be part of a shared purpose, and to bring their professionalism to bare in supporting Command to achieve its mandate, he also promised to lead the Unit and discharge his duties through teamwork, mutual respect and trust, which he said would be pillars of his command.

The CO also committed to upholding the standards of GAF, and that which had already been set by his forebears, adding that during his tenure, discipline and respect for authority would be the hallmark of the Unit.

At the beginning of the service, a minute’s silence was observed for victims of the Wednesday 9 August 2025 Z9 helicopter crash, which claimed the lives of three air crew of the Ghana Air Force, and five Government officials.

Present at the event included Commander, 2 Garrison, and Air Force Base, Takoradi – Air Commodore Eric Yirenkyi; Flag Officer Commanding, Western Naval Command – Commodore Samuel Ayelazono; Municipal Chief Executive, Sekondi-Takoradi – Mr Frederick Festunus Faidoo; Municipal Chief Executive of Mpohor District – Madam Sophia Obeng.

Others included the Acting National Security Coordinator for Western Region – Brig Gen Musah Whajah; Members of the REGSEC, Senior Military Officers, Officers of other Security Services, amongst many.
