The Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – Major General (Maj Gen) Bismarck Kwasi Onwona has visited the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) to inspect state of affairs prior to his officially handing over as the Commandant, to Maj Gen Matthew Kweku Essien.
As part of the scrutiny on Thursday, 28 March 2024, General Onwona addressed staff and students of the military college at the Hamidu Hall, and cited giant strides made in the development of infrastructure at GAFCSC, during his tenure from October 6, 2023, till he assumed command as COAS on 31 January 2024.

In his presentation, Maj Gen BK Onwona highlighted the introduction of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) academic programme as a groundbreaking achievement for the military college, and cited the procurement of 130 new books for the college library, which he said, was to ensure access to latest information on peace support operations, international relations, and related topics.
He also pointed to the installation of some e-resources, as well as nine (9) new air conditioner units, essential upgrades to the college’s library facilities, which fosters a comfortable and conducive environment for study and research.
The college also demonstrated commitment to enhancing learning experience, by investing significantly into Information and Communication Technology, such as the upgrade of the server room, installation of LED screens, upgrade of audio-visual equipment at the various lecture halls, laying of Internet access fibre cables, and network infrastructure upgrade.

He added that 110 customized laptops had been purchased for students, and that more were expected from the Ministry of Education, and the Defence Section of the British High Commission in Ghana.
During his tenure as Commandant, Maj Gen BK Onwona initiated numerous projects to foster a conducive environment for both students and staff, to ensure efficient administration and optimal learning experience.
He later inspected the progress of some ongoing projects, which include the modernization of GAFCSC’s Main Entrance Gate, and the tiling of the Model Room, which he assured of furnishing to a state-of-the-art standard.
The outgoing Commandant extended appreciation to the entire college staff for their dedication and support in realizing these projects, and emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving the college’s educational objectives.
