The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has held a Mission Accomplishment Parade to welcome home two contingents – United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT) 3, and Ghana Medical Level II Plus Hospital (GHANMED) 3 – from their one year peacekeeping tour of duty in Abyei.
The parade was held at 5 Infantry Battalion’s Bale Baz Square, on Monday 23 June 2025, with the Guest of Honour being the Director General, International Peace Support Operations (IPSO), GAF) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Kenneth Kwaku Kwaah Kumi, representing the Chief of the Defence Staff, GAF.

After presenting the two contingents with citations for their exceptional operational performances in the mission area, and paying respect to a fallen Soldier – Warrant Officer Class 2 (WOII) Amankwah David Kwame – the ‘curtains’ were official closed for their missions.
General Kumi lauded the contingents for fully accomplishing their missions of contributing to the achievement of the UNISFA Mandate, and selflessly extending humanitarian support to the poor and needy within their sector, thereby deepening the cordial relationship between GAF and Abyei.

Admonishing, Brig Gen KKK Kumi urged personnel of the teams to make good use of their well-deserved disembarkation leave, as they will be joining their colleagues on various internal operations within Ghana, such as Operations Enhanced CALM LIFE, GONGONG, HALT II, MAIDA BUURI, CONQUERED FIST, and MOTHERLAND among others.
He also urged them to demonstrate a high sense of professionalism, loyalty, and discipline at all times, plan and put their earnings into good use, be conscious spenders, and guard against Ponzi scheme investment companies promising high interest yields, to deceive potential investors.

Present at the parade included the Commander, UNISFA GHANMED 3 – Colonel Nicodemus Larbi Simpong (now Brig Gen); the Commanding Officer, UNISFA GHANBATT 3 – Lieutenant Colonel Baffour Antwi Sarpong, Senior Officers from the Ghana Army Headquarters, Officers, Soldiers and Defence Civilian Staff.
