As part of the CDS WELFARE PROJECTS; aimed at dealing with infrastructural deficit in the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), sod has been cut for the construction of a water farm, and new sewage systems for all Barracks, and for more accommodations.
The Chief of Staff (COS), General Headquarters (GHQ) – Major General (Maj Gen) Joseph Prince Osei-Owusu cut sod for the projects on Friday 19 April 2024, for new sewage systems for all barracks starting from the Arakan Barracks and Married Quarters accommodation, behind Defence Intelligence (DI) Office Block, at Burma Camp, Accra.

Additionally, a 4-unit 2-bedroom 3-storey accommodation is to be constructed, to replace a previous single bedroom facility razed by fire, behind Defence Intelligence, Burma Camp.
The projects form part of the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) – Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah’s welfare projects aimed at dealing with the infrastructural deficit in Burma Camp and improving the welfare of personnel.

The water farm which is expected to produce about 100,000 litres of portable water daily, will have one located at Air Force Barracks, and will be replicated at four different locations within Burma Camp, with two sited at Teshie, to help improve water distribution to the Camps nearby.
Maj Gen Osei-Owusu stated that the Military High Command is committed to the welfare of troops, and is poised to address the welfare challenges facing them, and that all the old and damaged sewage pipes and receptacles in all Barracks would be replaced, with new sewage systems, beginning with Arakan Barracks, in Burma Camp, Accra, first.

To give indication of what is to come, the COS commissioned two newly installed 315 KVA transformers at Duala Barracks, to address the acute power challenge in the barracks, at that part of Burma Camp.
