Ghana Army’s General Officer Commanding (GOC), Northern Command (N/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Frank Nartey Tei, has inaugurated a training program – Driver Orientation Course (DOC) – for forty-one (41) Drivers of the Command, to augment driver strength of units, and to enhance their skills and knowledge, ensuring that they are fully prepared to meet potential challenges in their duties.
Addressing the participants on Monday 1 July 2024, at the Kamina Barracks, Tamale, Brig Gen FN Tei spoke of the training as a special initiative of the Command Headquarters in collaboration with the Armed Forces Supply & Transport Training School (AFSTTS), for Drivers from 6 Infantry Battalion (6Bn), 10, 11 and 12 Mechanized Battalions (Mech Bns), 69 Air Borne Force (69 ABF), and 155 Armoured Regiment (155 Armd Regt).

The GOC expressed awareness of the critical role that the drivers play in the operational efficiency and effectiveness of N/COMD, in transporting personnel, equipment, or supplies, as the backbone of logistical operations, as their proficiency directly impacts our capability to execute missions and achieve set objectives on time.
Brig Gen Tei continued to say that the DOC is designed to provide comprehensive training that covers various aspects of driving within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in general, and N/COMD’s Area of Responsibility (AOR), in particular, including relevant driving techniques, vehicle maintenance, safety protocols, navigation skills, records keeping and reporting.

He added that the aim is to ensure that each participant leaves this course with a heightened sense of responsibility, competence, and confidence to perform their duties, for in the dynamic and often unpredictable environments in which N/COMD operates, he said, the ability to respond swiftly and safely is paramount.
To achieve this, he added, the DOC has been designed not only to enhance their driving skills, but to also instil in them a mind-set of vigilance, precision, and readiness, as every manoeuver and decision they make behind the wheels, could have significant consequences on the Service, personnel and pedestrians present.
Present at the ceremony were Staff Officers from the Command Headquarters, Officers, Acting Command Sergeant Major, Regimental Sergeant Major 6Bn, and Instructors.
