The Northern Command (N/COMD) of the Ghana Army has commenced a 2-week Orientation Cadre for newly-commissioned Officers who have been posted to the command, to acquaint them with Basic Military Norms and Traditions of the Command, and the units under the Formation.
The Orientation Cadre, which commenced on Monday, 15 January 2024 at the Justice Opoku Hall, Kamina Barracks, Tamale, additionally seeks to orientate the Officers on the conduct of operational activities within the Area of Operation (AO) of the Command.

Addressing the participants, the Command Operations Officer (COO) – Colonel (Col) Franklyn Worlanyo Agbebo, on behalf of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), N/COMD – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Matthew Essien, officially welcomed the officers to the AO.
He reminded them that their position as leaders, comes with responsibilities, and that every decision they would take has effect on the success or otherwise of missions assigned to them, and the lives they have been entrusted with.

The COO encouraged the participants to also be abreast with the latest developments in military strategy, technology and current affairs, since the threat of terrorism in the AO is real and imminent, and their adaptability and willingness to learn quickly, would be crucial in combatting this threat.
He further advised them to seek the welfare of the men they would be entrusted with, learn from them and show interest in the daily activities of their respective units.

Present at the ceremony were the Command Logistics Officer (CLO) – Col Francis Bannerman; Commanding Officer (CO), 6 Infantry Battalion – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Jerry Ankuyi, CO 69 Airborne Force, Lt Col Louis Boakye, CO 10 Mechanized Battalion, Lt Col Godfred Asampong and other Key Staff Appointments from the Headquarters N/COMD.
