Ghana’s Northern Regional Director, National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) – Alhaji Haruna Malba has paid a courtesy call on the 51 Engineer Regiment (51 ENGR REGT) of the Ghana Army in Tamale.
The on Thursday 21 August 2025 visit was the first of its kind to the Regiment since its formation in August 2024, where the Regional Director, accompanied by his staff, were received and briefed by the Commanding Officer (CO), 51 ENGR REGT REGT – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Edward Kofi Poku.

In his remarks, the Regional Director expressed a great sign of relief and hope with the establishment of an Engineer Regiment in the northern part of Ghana, and expressed his appreciation to Government and Ghana’s Military High Command, for such a bold and decisive step.
He intimated that, the Regiment would greatly impact the support received by NADMO during unforeseen disasters and emergencies, stating that an inter-agency collaboration that the Regiment would foster, would impact on training and general disaster preparedness.
The CO updated the Regional Director on the Unit’s establishment and activities, and assured Alhaji Malba of close collaboration and support with the arrival of the Unit in the northern part of the country.

The CO further indicated that the Regiment will also provide the same support to other Regions within the Area of Responsibility of the Northern Command of the Ghana Army, adding that as first responders, the Unit would soon provide the necessary disaster support, in accordance with the Regional Disaster Management Plan, to ensure that adverse events are mitigated and impact on the population reduced.
The accompanying NADMO staff, in their interactions, expressed a high level of interest in working closely with the Regiment in areas of Risk Assessment, Data Collection and Monitoring and Training.
