PARLIAMENT APPROVES GHANA BOUNDARY COMMISSION BILL 2024

by Kofi Ampeah Woode

The Parliament of Ghana has approved and enacted the Ghana Boundary Commission Bill, 2024, to enhance the country’s ability to address boundary demarcation, reaffirmation and disputes.

The new legislation shall empower the Ghana Boundary Commission (GhBC) to manage boundary issues with neighbouring countries with greater authority, aligning with international best practices.

The law also allows the Commission to implement social interventions to ease challenges faced by residents in deprived border communities as well as cross border cooperation with a neighbouring state.

According to Major General (Maj Gen) Emmanuel Wekem Kotia (PhD) – Commissioner General, GhBC, the passage of the Bill has strengthened the Commission’s mandate and will ultimately benefit Ghana, by resolving boundary-related issues, and maintain peace and stability along its borders.
