The Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) convened the 3rd edition of the Kofi Annan Peace and Security Forum (KAPS Forum) on Wednesday, February 28, to Thursday, February 29, 2024.
Themed “Migration and Societal Resilience in a Multipolar World Order: Addressing Conflicts and Building Peace in Africa,” the forum brings together 200 delegates from Africa and Europe, along with leading experts in migration, security, and development.
The KAPS Forum convenes prominent leaders, such as former President of Benin H.E. Boni Yayi, former Prime Minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam Dessalegn Boshe, former Vice President of The Gambia Mrs. Fatoumata C.M. Jallow Tambajang, former Vice President of Liberia H.E. Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, and African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns H.E. Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, among who have significantly shaped the world.

These former leaders, along with leading figures from the UN, African Union, ECOWAS, the European Union, and Heads of Immigration from various countries, will offer their unique policy insights on migration and security during these two days.
Topics to be discussed include:
- Migration, Climate Change and Conflicts in Africa: African Leadership and Coping Mechanisms
- Building Regional Capacity to Mitigate Migration and Conflicts in Africa
- Addressing Irregular Migration and Transnational Organized Crime in a Multipolar World
- Gender, Youth and Migration: Issues and Debates
- Building Community Resilience against Climate Change and Conflicts
- Demography and Migration in a Multipolar World Order
These discussions aim to address the root causes of conflict and displacement, such as poverty, inequality, lack of opportunity, and political marginalization.
The resulting migration patterns place immense strain on societal resilience, testing our infrastructure, stretching our social fabric, and at times, exacerbating existing tensions.

With climate change increasingly causing droughts, floods, and other factors that displace communities, particularly in the Sahel region and East Africa, discussions on climate resiliency will also seek commitments from participants to support communities with climate-smart agriculture, water management, and disaster risk reduction to prevent displacement caused by environmental factors.
Aligned with KAPITC’s new 5-Year Strategic Plan (2024-2028), which aims to maintain its position as the leading and preferred international centre for training, education, research, and policy advocacy focused on a peaceful and secure Africa, the Centre also seeks to use the 2024 KAPS Forum to foster inclusive and equitable development through the promotion of good governance, accountability, and the rule of law, ultimately making migration a matter of choice.
The KAPS Forum hopes to facilitate open dialogue and collaboration on critical African migration and security issues.
