RTD MILITARY OFFICERS VISIT THE COAS

by Kofi Ampeah Woode

The President of the Retired Commissioned Officers Association (RCOA) – retired military Officers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) – has led his team of newly installed Executives to pay a courtesy call on the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of GAF – Major General (Maj Gen) Thomas Oppong-Peprah.

The President of RCOA – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) S Yanyi-Akofur called on the COAS at his office on Thursday 9 February 2023, with his team to introduce themselves to the COAS, confirm the latter’s participation as Special Guest to the Association’s Annual Thanksgiving Service on 12 February 2023, and to support and commend the COAS for uplifting the image and welfare of the Army.

Gen Yanyi-Akofur said proceeds of the Annual Thanksgiving Service are largely used to support issues of concern to members of the Veterans Association of Ghana (VAG), such as assisting specific areas at the 37 Military Hospital, which might be in need.

They lauded the COAS for the ongoing expansion in the Army and the high-profile promotions, which the RCOA fully supports, and expressed total support for the idea of establishing a War College in Ghana.

Gen Oppong-Peprah, in welcoming the Executive Committee, congratulated them on behalf of the Army, acknowledging the commendable leadership of the past Executive led by Brig Gen IB Quartey, and assured the new Executives of his constant support to enable them succeed in assisting all Veterans.

The COAS explained that he owed the Ghana Army (GA) expansion program to his predecessors; for the concept was firmed up in 2015, although it was not implemented, assuring that the expansion/promotion of troops was in line with the operational requirements of GA, to address contemporary threats against Ghana.
