It is trite knowledge that the high-quality of an institution is indeed closely tied to the quality of its human resources – skills, knowledge, and abilities of the institution’s workforce – yielding a better equipped setup to drive set goals, and attain mandate.
This was clearly identified with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), as the Ghana Military Academy (GMA) Short Service Commission and Special Duty (SSC/SD) Intake 61 Graduation Parade, churned out seventy-three new personnel to join the Officer Corps, on Friday 22 November, 2024, at Teshie Ridge, Accra.

One of the many special graduates – Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Nadia Isabel Wuni, daughter of Brigadier General Issah Wuni (Rtd), former Military Assistant at the Defence Ministry, and former Defence Attaché at the Ghana Embassy, Beijing, China, who served over 40 years – caught Peace Journal’s attention.
Flt Lt NI Wuni, won BEST IN TACTICS AWARD, which is presented to the Officer Cadet with an in-depth understanding and application of military tactics in all practical field exercises, during the training period.
Speaking to General Issah Wuni about her daughter, the distinguished retired Army Senior Officer said of her daughter’s attainment; “I feel like I’m walking on the clouds”.
He said Flt Lt Wuni was born in 1995 at the 37 Military Hospital, Accra, schooled at Services Basic and Junior High at Burma Camp, and Holy Child School, in Cape Coast; studied Medicine at Shandong University, China, graduating top of her class, after which she returned to Ghana’s premier military hospital the 37 Military Hospital, for her housemanship, serving as House Officer, Second-in-Charge.
She was given a Letter of Commendation from the head of the Medical Department, and moved on to work at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, for her second year, and was awarded Best House Officer of the Year 2022, after which she was employed as Medical Officer.
Brig Gen Wuni has two sons; one of whom is domiciled in the United States of America, while the other is in China, however, the General expressed joy that his daughter decided to follow his footsteps, saying, “It is not a good idea to bring forth children, and let them all just jump out of their nests and go on their way”.
“As a humble and obedient daughter, she dropped whatever ideas she had, and agreed to come into the military. Wonderful! God bless her”, he spoke fondly of her daughter.

He said Flt Lt Wuni believes that the essence of the military is to provide peace, security, and as a Medical Doctor, her mission is also to provide peace in terms of helping alleviate illness, as GAF ensures peace of mind, hence it balances out, as a good way to help humanity in different aspects.
The new Officer of GAF, who is acclaimed to understand lessons very fast, believes that to be able to get to the utmost best of her ability, joining the military and thriving in it, would be a great way to inspire other people, including young females, to be able to strive to achieve whatever they want to achieve.
