General Officer Commanding (GOC), Southern Command (S/COMD) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Samuel Yeboah Asare has commenced operational visits to all Units and Forward Operating Bases (FOB) under the Areas of Operational Responsibility (AOR).
The aim of the visit which commenced on Wednesday 15 November 2023, is to give the GOC, who assumed command on 3 November 2023, the opportunity to familiarise himself with the Units under his command, meet and interact with troops, as well as gain first hand information on the various operational activities conducted by the Units in support of national development.

It is also for the GOC to acquaint himself with the various Forward Positions and Unit Deployments in the AOR, to help make Operational and Tactical decisions for the efficiency of the force.
The first leg of the visit saw the GOC visit 1 Infantry Battalion (1Bn) at Michel camp, where he was received by the Commander Rear of the unit – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Frank Adams, Staff Officers and personnel of the Unit, and inspected a guard of honour mounted for him, after which he was given a thorough brief of the operational, logistics and administrative state of the battalion, and conducted round some key infrastructure in the Unit.
Brig Gen SY Asare also visited a Forward Position at Somanya, in the Eastern Region, where troops of 1Bn are deployed, together with 48 Engineer Regiment (48 Engr Regt) on a joint operation with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

He then visited troops deployed on ‘Operation Motherland’ – a Ghana Armed Forces operation against secessionist activities – at the Akosombo and Kpong transmission stations and Atimpoku.
The GOC is expected to pay similar visits to all Units under S/COMD, namely; 2Bn, 5Bn, 66 Artillery Regiment, 48 Engr Regt and 1 Field Workshop.
