A high-level delegation from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) has held productive discussions with the leadership of the Women, Youth Peace and Security Institute (WYPSI) of the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC), upon a visit to the Centre.
Led by Mr Joachim Beijmo – the Head of Regional Development Cooperation in Africa at the Swedish Embassy in Ethiopia, the team visited the Commandant, KAIPTC – Major General Richard Addo Gyane, to evaluate progress within Phase II of the SIDA-funded project, which is titled “Deepening the Role of Women and Youth in the Implementation of the Women and Youth Peace and Security Agenda in Africa”, and being implemented by WYPSI.

The team welcomed the new focus for Phase two, recognizing its strong alignment with SIDA’s continental Peace Agenda strategy, positioning WYPSI and the KAIPTC as a whole, as a vital building block in achieving the objective of building sustainable peace, particularly by ensuring the meaningful participation of women and young people in peace processes.
The team believes that this inclusion will not only positively influence women’s economic empowerment but also create job opportunities for young people.
