UK MINISTER COMMENDS GHANA’S SPECIAL FORCES

The United Kingdom’s Secretary for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs – Mr James Cleverly has commended the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), especially the Army Special Operations Brigade (ASOB) for the high level of professionalism, teamwork and operational capabilities, displayed by student operatives of the Army Special Forces Basic Course 2-23.

Mr Cleverly made the commendations after watching a demonstration of special operation capabilities by the student operatives at the United Nations Village at Burma Camp on Monday, 31 July 2023.

He expressed optimism that the Brigade would play an important role towards securing the country and its citizens against any spillover effects from the deteriorating security situation in the Sahel region.

The GAF and the United Kingdom Army have had a long-standing training partnership. Ghana’s ASOB was established to provide the Army with the capability to deal with asymmetric threats confronting the country.

Present at the event were the High Commissioner of the UK to Ghana – Her Excellency Harriet Thompson, Ghana’s Minister for Defence – Mr Dominic Nitiwul, Minister for National Security –Mr Albert Kan Dapaah, GAF’s Chief of the Defence Staff – Vice Admiral Seth Amoama, Chief of the Army Staff – Major General Thomas Oppong Peprah, Chief of the Naval Staff – Rear Admiral Issah Adam Yakubu, Chief of the Air Staff – Air Vice Marshal Frederick Bekoe, Chief of Staff at the General Headquarters – Maj Gen Nicholas Peter Andoh and Senior Officers.
