A colourful Transfer of Authority ceremony was held for United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) Ghana Battalions (GHANBATT) 89 and 90, at the United Nations Position (UNP) 5-66, Obeng Camp, between Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) John Kwarteng – the Outgoing Commanding Officer (CO) and Lt Col Frank Kwesi Agyeman – CO, UNIFIL GHANBATT 90.
The Transfer of Authority ceremony on Monday 11 September 2023, signified the official Handing/Taking Over of administrative, Command and Control of GHANBATT Area of Operational Responsibility (AOR).

The ceremony was signified by a symbolic handing over of the United Nations Flag, a baton and the signing of certificates, then the outgoing Unit’s flag was lowered and the 64 Infantry Regiment’s flag was hoisted to signify the completion of Transfer of Authority.
In an address delivered by the UNIFIL Sector West Commander – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Giovanni Brafa Musicoro, stated that the rotation underlines the continuous support and commitment of the Republic of Ghana to UNIFIL and Lebanon, pointing out that Transfer of Authority is a key moment for Units.

Brig Gen GB Musicoro also stated that he appreciated GHANBATT 89 soldiers for accomplishing their tour of duty in South of Lebanon, despite their long stay away from their families and country, effective service with precision, in accordance with the UN Resolution 1701.
Brig Gen Musicoro congratulated Lt Col J Kwarteng for the excellent result achieved by his Command, and also awarded the Lebanese medal. He also wished Lt Col FK Agyeman, a successful tour of duty with the same professionalism and determination of his predecessors.

Brig Gen Giovanni also paid glowing tribute in memory of the late Staff Sergeant Ibarhim Abubakari, who lost his life in a road traffic accident under UNIFIL GHANBATT 89.
