The Force Commander (FC) of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) – Lieutenant General (Lt Gen) Aroldo Lázaro Sáenz paid a working visit to the Headquarters of Ghana Battalion (GHANBATT) at UNP 5-66, Al Qawzah, South Lebanon.
The purpose of the visit on Wednesday 30 October 2024, was to introduce himself to the Battalion, and also gather first-hand information on the happenings within GHANBATT’s Area of Responsibility (AoR).

On arrival, the FC was briefed on the Operational and Logistic issues of GHANBATT after which he visited the UN Level 1 Hospital, where an artillery bomb landed, destroying the facility.
Lt Gen AL Sáenz also interacted with troops who were in bunker at the time of his visit, during which the FC interacted with the troops, and commended them for the high standard of professionalism and resilience exhibited, during the period of cross-border exchanges between the Israeli Defence Force and Hezbollah, in Lebanon.

General Sáenz also commended the Commanding Officer (CO), UNIFIL GHANBATT 91 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Isaac Kobe Boako for his excellent leadership role, in handling the hard times the Battalion faced, and further acclaimed the GHANBATT for the bravery, in maintaining UNIFIL’s mandate along the Blue Line, in Southern Lebanon.
Lt Col IK Boako thanked the FC (who was accompanied by staff officers from the UNIFIL Headquarters, Naqoura) for the visit, which he said meant a lot to the Battalion, and assured him of his Battalion’s readiness to carry out UNIFIL’s mandate.
