The Sector West Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) – Brigadier General (Brig Gen) Enrico Fontana, has stated that Ghanaian troops serving in Southern Lebanon are the most motivated, proficient and efficient of all.
Brig Gen Fontana made the comments when he paid a working visit to the Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT 90) Headquarters (HQ), UNP 5-66, and the various positions, on Saturday 17 February, 2024, as part of his inaugural tour to all battalions under Sector West.
He was welcomed to the GHANBATT 90 HQ by the Commanding Officer – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Frank Kwesi Agyeman, and was briefed on the duties, as well as the responsibilities of the GHANBATT.
In an interaction with troops of UNIFIL GHANBATT 90, Brig Gen E Fontana stated that, he recognized the typical military mark of professionalism and motivation on the faces of troops of UNIFIL GHANBATT 90.
He also appreciated GHANBATT’s dedication to maintaining peace along the Blue Line, highlighting the troops’ continuous commitment to defending civilians’ right to live in peace, and safeguarding Ghana’s interests even at the risk their lives.
Addressing the consequences of the conflict between Israel and Lebanon, Brig Gen Fontana commiserated with GHANBATT on the damages caused by the ongoing strife, and commended the troops for their remarkable bravery and unwavering professionalism throughout this unpredictable period in Lebanon.
