UNISFA GH 2 HOLDS PRE-OPS INDUCTION PARADE

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Second Battalion (GHANBATT 2) for United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), currently in pre-operational training and concentration at the Battle Training Camp (BTC), Bundase has held its Induction Religious Parade.

The Induction Religious Parade was held on Sunday 27 November 2022, at the Oppong-Peprah Multipurpose Hall, Bundase, under the theme “The Presence of God” with all Key Appointment Holders and the entire battalion present.

The Guest of Honour and the Chief G3, Peace Support Operations at the Army Headquarters -Colonel (Col) John Danso-Ankrah congratulated all ranks for their nomination, especially the CO and his Regiment as they form the Command and Nucleus of the GHANBATT. He stated that the core task of the GHANBATT was to protect civilians in the fulfillment of the UNISFA mandate. He urged all to prepare adequately to diligently carry out the assigned task.

Furthermore, Col John Danso-Ankrah in his remarks stated that Ghana/GAF continued to fulfill its commitment to international peace and security and has participated under the umbrella of the United Nations (UN) since its first deployment in UN Operation in Congo (ONUC) in 1960.

He indicated that Ghana had also provided Military Staff Officers and Observers in several UN missions across the globe and admonished troops to live up to expectation and continue to uplift the image of Ghana and GAF.

The Commanding Officer (CO) of UNISFA GHANBATT 2 – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Edward Sarpong Appiah in his speech congratulated troops on their nominations and thanked the Military High Command for the opportunity given him as CO of the GHANBATT.

He encouraged troops to continue to work hard and counted on their support for a successful tour of duty.

The CO emphasised that the bedrock of an effective and efficient GHANBATT lied on discipline and professionalism. He therefore urged troops to remain discipline at all times and continue to discharge their duties with professionalism.

The Chaplain, Lieutenant (Lt) Reverend Solomon Aidoo speaking on the theme “The Presence of God”, prayed for the presence of God to be with troops as they embark on the mission to Abyei.

He urged the troops to lean on God always to be their shield and guide. The Imam, Lt Yunus Abubakari in his homily also urged troops to look up to Allah for victory in all their endeavours at the mission area
