The Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) Team and Engagement Platoon of the Second Ghanaian Battalion (GHANBATT) serving under the auspices of United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) under the Command of Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Edward Sarpong Appiah, have displayed series of charitable gestures as Ghanaian peacekeepers, to some deprived Primary Schools, in Sector South of UNISFA Area of Operation, Abyei.
The Battalion apart from its kinetic operations of ensuring peace and security and protecting civilians in Abyei, conducts non-kinetic operations which include facilitating the delivery of humanitarian assistance, in order to win the hearts and minds of the local communities and thus GHANBATT on Monday 6 May 2024, provided support to some deprived Pre-Schools and communities, with donations of Teaching and Learning Materials.

The Team also took the opportunity to sensitize the pupils in GHANBATT Area of Responsibility (AoR) on the outbreak of conjunctivitis, as they were educated on the symptoms, signs and prevention of the disease, which causes the redness and inflammation of the membranes covering the whites of the eyes, and on the inner part of the eyelids.
Schools the Team visited included Akenghial, Awolnhom and Minyang Anyiel Primary, where the pupils were encouraged not to hesitate to visit any nearby medical facility for treatment, in the event of the disease showing up.

This donation – which included assorted stationery such as pencils, pens, rules, text, exercise, arts, story and colouring books – was in response to some challenges presented by the Head Teachers of Primary Schools within GHANBATT AoR, through series of Community Engagements.
Presenting the items to the school, the CIMIC Officer – Captain (Capt) Michael Kwadwo Agordekpe emphasised the importance of education, and entreated the pupils to approach it with all seriousness, so they can realize their potentials.

The Head Teachers of the Primary Schools – Mr Abraham Makuac Malai, Mr Gabriel Kuol Bol and Mr Akoc Atem Akoc receiving the items, thanked GHANBATT for the kind gesture and timely delivery of the items, and also assured that the items would be used for the intended purposes.
