The United Nations Interim Security Force in Abyei (UNISFA) Ghanaian Battalion 3 (GHANBATT 3) has officially inducted its Commanding Officer (CO) – Lieutenant Colonel (Lt Col) Baffour Antwi Sarpong into office, at a religious induction and consecration of colours parade.
The service was held at the GHANBATT Headquarters, Athony Company Operating Base on Saturday 27 July 2024 was dubbed, “Together we serve together we succeed”.

Speaking on the theme, the Clergy called on all the troops to do what complements each other and do what is right for the success of the Battalion, and said a prayer for God’s blessings, protection and guidance on the CO and his Battalion, and led him to pledge his allegiance to serve in love, truth and humility, and be firm and just in executing his duties to the Officers and Soldiers under his watch.
In his address, Lt Col BA Sarpong expressed gratitude, noting that the occasion was an igniting moment to propel the entire Unit to work hard to achieve the purpose of the Mission. He emphasized the need for personnel to maintain a professional posture, alertness, perseverance, and adherence to orders, and work together to achieve the peace that Abyei deserves.

“Considering the threat and security situation, I urge you all to be disciplined, adhere to instructions, remain vigilant and adopt a more aggressive posture to ensure deterrence in order to create an atmosphere of peace”, he stated.
Lt Col Sarpong further entreated the Clergy to seek the face of God on behalf of the Battalion and urged all sub-unit commanders and key appointment holders, to offer good leadership, command and control and good administration of troops.

The CO finally seized the opportunity to thank all uniformed and civilian staff of UNISFA, Chiefs and people of Abyei for gracing the occasion despite all odds.
